May I add that the person who performs the funeral rites of his
parents or others have their head shaved too.
When my head was shaved, the reason given was that life is like
hair. It is there, all wonderful and beautiful groomed with care, at one
moment and the next moment it disappears like nothing. Maybe this explanation
was given just to convince a teenager.

If I may say so, there are many temples besides Tirupathi for
which the above procedure is followed. I have seen it in pilgrimage
spots of Shakti, and Skanda, but not in Shiva temples (atleast the
famous ones). Can someone explain why ?
On a side note, I heard that the barbers in Tirupathi and other
temples sell the hair. I am not aware for what purpose it is used.
Shri Ramarao has given some modern techniques like wearing
hats, cutting only portion of hair etc. In addition, some people who have
promised to donate their hair to God may be unable to undertake this
pilgrimage. Thus they just cut their hair in the local shop and ship the
hair to the temple.
