Just one more addition. ( If I am wrong Correct me).
The Sun is also called Vivasvath and is considered as the first person to
have obtained the Knowledge of Brahman from the Lord and passed it over
to Manu and other Raja Rishis in the Solar Dynasty.
( Pls Refer Chapter 4 Bhaghavat Gita Where Lord Krishna tells Arjuna
about how he conveyed the Knowledge of Brahman to Vivasvath, Manu etc etc)
In Bhagavath Gita there is also a mention of 5 activities than an
individual has to do every day. ( Obligatory Work) One of them requires
us to Workship our Ancestors who have contributed to our Knowledge of
the cosmic forces. Since Sun is the source of all our Knowledge about
Brahman the workship of Sun would play a great role in fulfilling one
of the 5 Obligatory duties a person is supposed to perform.
II There is also a mention in Bhagavath Gita about the 16 attributes of
Sun of which only 12 are visible to Normal Human Beings and the
Remaining 4 are visible only during Pralaya to people who have the
knowledge of Brahman. If you look at Surya Namaskara ((Yogasana) it
has 12 steps each helping in acquiring 1 of the attributes of Sun.
If any one knows about that pls post it in the News Group.
Moreover what I have stated may be wrong so feel free to correct it
if I am wrong.
