After considering it, I realized that you were right and that the
source of the confusion here is my native language. We don't have a
written form, and as a result, the language changes fairly rapidly
over time. The diaspora has aggravated the situation. Having no basis
for transliteration into English, I just work from speech, and I guess
I pronounce it (perhaps incorrectly) with a mild 'h' sound. However,
you're right about the spelling.
