I heard that three nerves meet near the center of eye brows called
'Bhrumadyam'. Information is passed through nerves in the form of
discrete electric pulses. So it creates some form of power near the
bhrumadyam. The dissipation of power near the bhrumadyam can be reduced
by some materials which are present in Kumkum, Vibhooti and Chandanam.

Only the marks made using these three materials are really meant for the
purpose. The bhottu (dot on forehead) made using some other artificial
materials are only for ornamental purposes. They do not symbolize the
real purpose.

Moreover, they also have some form of cooling effect.

I don't remember all the details. That's what I had been told by
our elders.
