On the subject of science and Hinduism, I would like to add that the
organization of the deities in Hinduism is quite significant in that
regard.
Typically, all scientific understanding was subject to the
understanding of the senses (Indra being the ruler of Devas). The
senses in turn were subject to consciousness. Thus the study of the
Surya Deva (Sun) was subject to the understanding of perception, the
Surya Deva being under the Indra Deva. As additional heavenly bodies
were discovered, typically they were described as being born to some
sage or the other.
