Hi all,

I'm a "fan" of the Hindu goddess -- Kali, because of its
mystic wrathful form and the meaning of destroy (???).
Can anyone pls tell me more about her background and
show me the way to find her images on the net. Any
books or references are also welcomed.

It seems quite strange cos' I just couldn't hear any words
about her from your mouths... any special reasons?

I'm not a Indian/Hindi so PLEASE forgive my innocent.

Kali is a Shaivite deity which was created by the Shiva to avenge the
death of his wife Sati at the hands of Daksha. The legend describes
Sati, the material principle (nature) as having immolated herself
through yogic practice in an attempt to prove the supremacy of
consciousness (Shiva) -- consciously ending one's life or material
body without any other material aid. Sati fails in her attempts to
prove the supremacy of consciousness despite having abandoned her
physical body because Daksha and the other Vaishnavas ascribe her
death to effects of fire rather than conscious effort.

Kali and Virabhadra are thus created by Shiva from his matted locks by
smashing a strand onto the ground resulting in the creation of Kali
and Virabhadra -- the pulling out of his hair probably represents
mental effort of Shaivites. Thus Kali and Virabhadra then proceed to
destroy Daksha's sacrifice and avenge Sati's death. Another story in
the long series of competitions and debates between advocates of
different deities in Hinduism.
