A Reuters news report tells of a recall of thousands
of shoes by their manufacturer, Nike. The company has
given in to muslims who complained that a flame-like logo
on the shoe resembles "Allah" in Arabic.
Fine. But when will Nike and other shoe makers recall shoes
that are made of leather and are the consequence of immeasurable
pain, suffering and death of animals? Ahinsaa, or nonviolence,
is the core Hindu principle.
"Do not injure the beings living on earth, in the
air and in the water." - Yajur Ved.
"Even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth,
so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath, so
that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all
is Vanity. - Ecclesiastes
