Katherine Mayo was a medical missionary in India. her book reflects
her personal perspective. The book, published in the 1930's caused
significant controversy at that time, a few books were written in
response to her book.

The title of her book selected to ridicule the Indian freedom
movement.

What she wrote was facts, but she selected them to suit her perspective.
Gandhi had written that no European should read this book, and every
Indian should read it.

In any case, the book is no longer relevant since it is about India
of the 20's and 30's. There are quite a few contemporary books about
Indian women.
