Shivalinga represents in stone the vedic sutra (formula) about the
Universe:
Ekam Brahman, Anyam Shoonaym
which means "the one central truth - God - around which the universe is
formed".
The number 1 represents God and the number 0 the horizontal expanse of the
universe.
The universe does not have a separate existance of its own, if you omit God
from it.
Without God, the universe would not exist. Hence the number 0.
You try to show number 1 and 0 in stone, you get shivling. You make a
little way for Puja water to pass.
No, it is not Shiva's organ.
Shiva is a name/word for God, it means pious, holy, good. Linga means a
symbol.
Shivling is a symbol with which we can think of Him.
