I am new to this group. I am therefore not informed
about the controversy going on in this thread. However on my own I have
some doubts about the dating of Ramayana and MahaBharata. When I saw
this thread in the present group I could not pass up the opportunity to
add my own two cents.

Lanka of Ramayana and present Shrilanka seem to have no
connection with each other. Although we may think that people of old
could do anything, basic laws of nature have not changed in the last five
thousand years. First, the location of Lanka. The bridge that Rama,
with the help from his Maratha army built, was much shorter than the present
distance between Shrilanka and India. It is therefore likely that the
location of Shrilanka was closer to the shore of India which is possible
if we place the time of Ramayana to be sometime before the end of the
last ice age.

Before the start of the present warm period which is officially
dated to be 12,000 years old, the level of oceans was lower and there
existed two large continents (Sunda and Sud) between Australia and India.
Lower part of malayasian peninsula, Indonesia, philipines up to New Guinea
were all a part of this land mass. It is theorised that the Australian
aborigines must have migrated via this route some 40 or 50,000 years back.
It is also considered the time of migration of the Maya Indians into central
America because at that time Asia and America were joined.

It is therefore likely that Ramayana took place sometime before
12,000 years ago. If we can decide the time of Ramayana, MahaBharat
time can be easily determined by the fact that King Shalya who took over
the fighting on Kaurava's side after the death of Karna was 50th
generation from Luv and Kush (Rama's sons). Considering this to be
equivalent to a thousand years, we have the time frame for MahaBharat.

This also helps one other difficulty I have about MahaBharat. It
is mentioned that Indraprastha, the capital of Pandavas, was built by Maya
Danava. Many people believe that it was one of the Maya Indians. Which
seems possible because Mayas seem to be good at architecture and one of
the Maya architects could have been brought to India for the purpose. But how
did pandavas hear of this architect and how did he come to India? If
we assume a land connection between Asia and America, it seems possible
that some one could travel from America to India and Back.

I would appreciate it if some one can shed some more light on
this time frame.
