DIWALI IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF INDIA
In the north , in Bengal , Diwali begins with Kali puja. Which is on the eve of Diwali, in the late hours of the day. It is celebrated with the traditional aarati , bhog and crackers. The unique thing about the 'bhog' or the 'prasad' is it can be a vegetarian dish or a non-vegetarian , prepared after offering an animal sacrifice or 'bali' to the Goddess. The day of the Diwali is also celebrated as "Bhai phota" in honour of the brother. The sisters give lavish gifts to the brother, make his favorite dish and pray for his long life. If the sister is married the brother goes to the sister's house on the day.
