Re: VISHNU and SHIVA
In article <4af9u4$loi@babbage.ece.uc.edu>, vijaypai@rice.edu (Vijay Sadananda Pai) says:

The Bhagavata Purana is a wonderful text, (Ramakrishna himself praised it) but I feel it shines through that at least
parts of it was written polemically to "prove" the superiority of Vishnu. Personally I like best the non-dual
teachings in book eleven.

Limiting Paramatman to a certain name or description is utterly ridiculous. Within a
newsgroup like this it might be fair to allow oneself to discuss such matters, but basically it is also very chauvinistic;
personally I recognize the weight of hindusistic religion/ religious philosphy, but there is no super-scripture
other than you own faith that could place e.g the Upanishads above e.g the Bible. This in turn makes
discussing the superiority of a certain combination of letters totally useless. How important is the spelling
and pronounciation by the way ? I mean moving from devanagri to Roman writing and moving from sanskrit to
finnish intonation - are we still talking about the same gods e.g Vishnu.
(talking about mantras I might disagree with myself - the proper sound is important, as I have found out
in meditation)
