I have also said in SEVERAL posts of mine, (being a net-illiterate
I cannot reproduce them), that the much advocated dis-association
of religion and politics is NOT feasible. And as far as I recollect,
I had said pretty much the same in the article, which Gopal has
re-produced below in parts.
The demarcation line, (between politics and religion and esp. Dharma)
at the best, is a VERY fuzzy one. So, it would not be proper to
advocate the divorce of religion and politics.
For example, the Gita as told by Krsna has BIG political
implications. That does not change, whether you like the
msg. of Gita or not. Similarly, the Artha-Shaastra of Kautilya
has a lot of politics, and a lot of religion. The two get
intermingled, almost, always. So, if you start banning
politics from religion groups (which does not happen in
religion groups like, s.r.islam, s.r.sikhism, s.r.christ*)
you would be just indulging in debates, which at the
best will be academic, and useless at the worst.
For instance, howsoever good your spiritual thoughts may
be, to ensure that these noble ideals can be practiced
in reality, you need to have a social and political
structure, which is conducive to the growth of your
lofty ideals. Otherwise, the ideals will just that:
ideals.
However, I do not see why I shud oppose a talk group,
but the fact that I advocate its creation DOES NOT
imply that I also advocate a version of s.r.h which
rejects articles on the basis that they are a mix
of religion and politics.
So here is where I stand:
* have a talk group.
* also, permit articles, which have anything to do with
hinduism (whether or not they have political implications)
in the s.r.hindu ng.
