Namaste,
I must apologize for the delay in writing my rebuttal to this article. This

Subject : A Hindu's perspective to Halaal Meat (rejoinder)

If I as a Hindu make an Easter Resolution that even I shall never eat meat
from an animal killed by a Muhammadan, JUST AS THEY NEVER EAT MEAT from an
animal killed by a Hindu, does that make me a Hindu fundamentalist????
CERTAINLY NOT!
S.Vidyasankar wrote:
So also, the Muslim's resolution not to eat meat that was butchered by a
Hindu or a Sikh, does not make him a Muslim fundamentalist. You have to
understand that first before you start screaming your head off about it.
My response::
Thanks for agreeing to my point that if I refuse to eat meat from an animal
killed by a Mohammadan that does not make me a Hindu fundamentalist. For
your information, I have started to practice what I preach since Easter.

and if what I have understood about "Halaal meat" is correct,
I INTEND DOING PRECISELY THAT!!
S.Vidyasankar wrote:
Fine. I don't think you will be putting any Muslim butchers out of
business. Most Hindu religious leaders would however tell you that it is
much better to resolve not to eat meat at all.
My response::
If Hindus start doing this in large numbers, (hopefully they will when they
realize the importance of "DO TO OTHERS AS OTHERS DO TO YOU), the
Mohammadan butchers shall start feeling the pinch.

One point that really burns my heart is that all over the world, there are
millions of Muslims who eat only "halaal meat".
Some of these Muslims might be asking their guests whether the meat is
halaaal or not.
S.Vidyasankar wrote:
I fail to understand why this must bother you. Every religion has its
dietary laws. Strict Jews eat only kosher meat. Strict Hindus forswear
all meat. Why shouldn't you grant the millions of Muslims the right to
follow their own customary dietary laws?
My response::
When a Mohammadan asks you whether meat is halaal or not, in effect he/she
is asking you whether the animal from whom the meat was prepared was killed
by a Mohammadan butcher or not. Incase it is not killed by a Mohammadan, it
is considered by him/her to be IMPURE. !!!!!! (haraam). Extending their
ludicrous line of thinking further, if a Mohammadan criminal kills the
animal it is halaal but if a saint kills the same animal, it is Haraaam!!! I
think THIS ANOMALY is sufficient reason for me to feel bothered!!
Forswearing all meat by Hindus is quite different from the Mohammadan way of
forswearing all meat PREPARED by Hindus.
Sure, give them the right of rejecting "haraam meat" but then they should be
prepared for the day when a militant Hindu movement considers meat prepared
by the Mohammadans to be HARAAM.
S. Vidyasankar wrote:
Please don't forget the basic Hindu teaching of "athiti devo bhava". If
you have a Muslim guest who only eats halaal meat, respect his wishes
and serve him halaal meat or else serve vegetarian food. If you are a
meat-eater and are invited by a Muslim who only eats halaal meat, why
should it bother you that the meat he serves is halaal? After all, the
butcher has prayed to Allah before killing the animal. And if you as a
Hindu believe in "Isvar Allah tero naam" you should have no problems
eating halaal meat. Why is this is such a big issue? If it still bothers
you, decline the invitation politely and explain in civil terms why. (I
can't believe this, I'm sounding like an "Aunt Abby" advice column!)
My response:
Athithi devo bhava - Agreed. Mussalman athithi devo bhava nahin!!
I am sick and tired of this stance of Hindu tolerance. For God*s sake why
should Hindus accept the vagaries of the Mohammadans and serve them food
from an animal butchered by a Mohammadan ?
We believe in ISHVAR ALLAH TERO NAAM !!! This is the nonsense that people
like Gandhi preached. Will the Mohammadans ever SAY the SAME TO THE HINDUS ?
Will the Mohammadans ever say " RAM ALLAH TERE NAAM!!"
Why should only Hindus BE TOLERANT ? This excessive sense of tolerance in
Hindus turns it from being a virtue to an evil. Stop being tolerant. Stop
bending over backwards to appease the Mohammadans.
Suraj Sabberwal wrote:
IF WE AS HINDUS OR SIKHS OR BUDDHISTS RESOLVE ONLY TO EAT
MEAT from an animal killed by a member of our own religion and ask our
Muslim guests whether the meat is "PURE FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE" how would the
Muslims feel ???
S.Vidyasankar wrote:
Tell them your resolution is just like their rules regarding halaal
meat. They would understand perfectly well.
My response:
Good heavens ! If I were to ever tell the Mohammadans in India or elsewhere
that I would not EAT MEAT PREPARED FROM an animal killed by a Mohammadan, I
DOUBT whether they would understand my resolution perfectly well !!!
S.Vidyasankar wrote:
It is not a healthy trend to jump at small matters like this, and make
it a big Hindu-Muslim issue. We must all resist the tendency to demonize
the "other", and the temptation to scream in block letters over imagined
insults.
My response:
This is NOT an imaginary insult. Ask any Mohammadan friend of yours how he
would feel if you as a non-vegetarian refuse to eat meat prepared by him on
grounds that he/she is Mohammadan.
THE BOTTOM LINE OF MY LINE OF REASONING HAS AND SHALL CONTINUE TO BE ::
"" DO TO THE MOHAMMADAN AS HE DOES TO YOU. ""
