1 Yes, Mr. / Ms. Sicily.
Traditionally, there is a sacrament (samskAra) called 'jAta-karma'
observed to celebrate the birth of a child in the Hindu family.
2.The procedures of observing this ceremony are detailed in what are
known as 'Grihya-sutra's. (AshwalAyana, Apastamba, pAraskara, goBhila,
hiranyakEshi, to name a few.)
3.Constituent parts of the ceremony are:
a) medhA-janana (medha= intelligence, janana=production)
b) Ayushya ( a rite for the long life of the child)
c) bala-vardhana ( a rite aspiring for the bodily strength of the
child)
4. This is followed by another sacrament called 'nAma-karaNa'. This is
the naming ceremony.
5. Now a days, both the above ceremonies are jointly observed along with
family customs, if any.
6. If you want to know more about these samskAras, I will be more than
happy to give deatils. Also there is an excellent source of information
in the book "Hindu Samskaras" by Rajbali Pandey, Pub: Motilal
Banarasidass, and this book is available in most of the reputed
Book-sellers selling Indian books.
Good Luck!
Sincerely - Harihareswara
