Dear Sally Raven and others,

I really liked Chakravarty's explanation of The Mother and Daly's heart
felt account of his experience with Mother Meera. I personally have
encountered the Love that is the Divine Mother chiefly through Ammachi.

Well, first as an answer to your question about the worship of the
Mother, I would recommend again as references books of the Ramakrishna
Mission (Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna for example), books by Sri Aurobindo
and any of the books on Sri Vidya and the Lalitha Sahasranama. Really as
these books will tell you there is no adequate way to describe the Mother.

Paramahamsa Yogananda says that The Mother is "That aspect of the
Impersonal that is active in creation"- meaning the One Supreme Energy
that creates , sustains and destroys this universe, that forces the on
ward going evelution to evolve from amoeba to animal to man and finally
to God. This Supreme Force (or Shakti) is said not only to create this
universe but to become it- meaning the entire universe is Her
manifestation.

In the Impersonal Brahman arose an impulse to multiply. This impulse that
caused the One to become the many is the Mother. She is called Mother
because that is who She is- The Mother of all creatures, you and me. All
beings came from Her and into Her shall return.

The Universe is Her play, and so She is called "The playful Mother" or
"Lalitha". The Laitha Sahasranama or the "Thousand names of the Mother" is
a popular work delineating the role of the Mother in Her numberless
aspects- as Lalitha She is the playful one of intoxicating beauty who
manifests as this universe with all its suns and stars and galaxies and
flowers, as Saraswati She bestows Knowledge of all arts and also
Spiritual knowledge, as Gayatri She illuminates us like the Sun, as
Savitri She is the Goddess of Truth, as the lion riding Durga the Mother
of
might destroying obstacles in Her children's path, as Kali
the Divine Destroyer of the ego, as Kundalini Shakti the inner Force in
man, as sweet Lakshmi the bestower of fortune and protection, as the Guru
Shakti in all true Gurus, as devotion and faith in all seekers, as the
Maha Maya the illusion that causes us to forget Her, and also as Jnana
Shakti that makes us come to Her again....

Infinite are Her aspects, but what draws us closest to "Mother" is Her
Love. That Matchless Motherly Love that patiently supports and guides Her
children, all the way through evolution. So if there is one word that
can describe Mother, it is the word " Love"- unconditional Love..

It is this Love that pours out of all Mahatmas. It was this that I
experienced when I went and saw Ammachi, a famous woman saint from
South India . Chakravarti referred to Her in his mail, and Tamizhan had
asked a question about Her. So it would not be out of place if I tell you
what I felt near Ammachi.

Ammachi is a saint from India who Hugs and meets each person who comes to
see Her. Sometimes thousands and thousands come, and She sits patiently
sometimes up to 22 hours at a stretch, without getting up even once until
She has met all the people , greeted them with Love and listened to their
problems and counseled them- and this day after day after day. She is, in
my experience, an embodiment of
Matchless Pure Love. She is considered by many as an avatar or embodiment
of the Divine Mother- but Ammachi Herself never claims anything- She
always says " I am your servant". The Love and Peace that radiates from
Her is astounding.

When I first saw Her, I was astounded by the Love of this little woman
who meets everyone, hugs each person, sitting for 20 hours or so day
after day unmindful of Her physical strain. The smile She shows the last
person is as fresh and spontaneous as the smile She shows the first. It is
quite evident that genuine Selfless Love pours out of Ammachi all the
time.

Many have found solace near Her, many have had Divine experiences bestowed
by Her(visons etc), many have had their diseases cured by Her- but more
than all this is the tremendous transformation that She effects in
people's hearts when they see Her Selfless Love.

She is, along with Mother Meera and other great Souls, a living Form of
the Mother today.
