I think you make a good point here. Perhaps one of the roots of
this could lie in the fact that both Hinduism and Buddhism seem to imply
a renounciation of Western style materialism. By way of example, one can
be a devout Christian or Jew and still be very successful, financially speaking.
Although this is also possible in Hinduism and Buddhism, someone who is
an advanced yogi (to use the example of Hinduism) would not be concerned with
material possessions since he/she knows that the Self is all.
Another point that one could consider is that Hinduism (but not
Buddhism) does not actively seek converts in the way that Christianity does.
Perhaps this could be another reason why CNN chose to mention it.
